Sal is an island with unlimited kitesurfing possibilities and home to 4xVice World Champ Mitu Monteiro. From late October to May, Cape Verde is the perfect winter getaway for those who want wind, warm temperatures and a short flight time. At the KiteWorldWide Kitehouse you will experience the unique flair of Cape Verde together with other kite maniacs.

Great weather all year round and wind from late October to May are a good start. There is something for everyone in terms of kitesurfing spots on Sal: The Kite Beach with side-onshore wind and small wind waves for intermediate and advanced kitesurfers. Due to the depth of the water, Sal is not an ideal spot for beginners with shallow water, but if you have learned kitesurfing here, you can do it at any spot in the world. That’s why we’ve put together a wide range of courses matching everyone’s needs and level. For the cracks there are world class wave kitespots, especially the wave at the beach of Ponta Preta, which is famous through countless videos.

We have also arranged an array of other activities for you to meet other kiters and get a feel for real life in Cape Verde. On one evening a week you’ll have a great beach BBQ or a community dinner in one of the typical cape verde beach restaurants.

To round up the holiday there are economic and sporting equipment-friendly flights. In just six hours, you´ll be at the very heart of the world of wave kitesurfing.

What you get

  • Live right by the beach in Santa Maria
  • Most reliable spot for winter, only 6h flight
  • kite station of Mitu Monteiro at the Kite Beach
  • Learn to (wave-)kite surf from the world champion
  • Daily kite shuttle as well as other activities

Mitu Monteiro, 1x World Campion, 3x Vice World Champion

"Sal is such a small island, but its sea has really so much to offer. The trade wind, blowing almost tirelessly between 15 to 25 knots from November till May, makes Sal a must-ride place for every Kitesurfer, no matter which level he is. A beginner can find in Kitebeach good conditions, even though the little waves can be tricky in the beginning, but with a complete training that will prepare him to be able to kite at his ease in most of the spots where he will go in the next holiday."

Kitesurfing

Kitesurfing in Sal

Kitespots & Kiteschool

If you know where to go, you’ll discover an astounding array of different kitesurfing spots.

There are spots with side-onshore wind and small wind waves for intermediate kiters on the windward eastern side of the island. This is also where you’ll find the so-called Kite Beach and the new and stylish kite school of Mitu and Djo.

At the western corner of the bay, there is also an excellent wave spot. This is only recommended for experienced kitesurfers, as the wind blows offshore. Those who don’t want to tackle the waves in Ponta Preta, should still come and check out this spot and watch the pros ripping it out in the waves.

All the colleagues of Mitu & Djos’ kite school are happy to welcome you at their spot. The teachers are fully qualified, and they teach in small groups to ensure fast progression. The team of Mitu is speaking all sorts of languages, so there should be the right teacher to suit your language.

The kite centre provides you with the latest gear from F-One. You’ll find everything you could wish for from trainer kites to wave boards.
