The Ocean Spirit Lodge is located near Burgau on Portugal's Algarve coast – one of Europe's most diverse coastlines for water sports enthusiasts. The region between Lagos and Sagres is known for its impressive landscapes, relaxed atmosphere and ideal conditions for kitesurfing, stand-up paddling and surfing. A special highlight for kitesurfers is the nearby shallow water lagoon of Alvor. The spot offers excellent conditions for beginners and advanced surfers – constant wind, warm water and plenty of space to practise. The lagoon is particularly beginner-friendly at low tide, while at high tide even experienced kitesurfers get their money's worth. Lessons are given on site by VDWS-certified instructors in several languages – German, English, Portuguese, Spanish and French.
The lodge itself is a stylish, lovingly furnished, simple surf house with direct access to the best spots in the region. Kitesurfing courses, SUP tours and equipment rental can be conveniently booked as part of a complete package. At the same time, the surrounding area offers plenty of variety: from the tranquillity of unspoilt nature and spectacular coastal hikes to the lively nightlife in nearby Lagos.

For me, the Alvor lagoon is one of the best places to learn kitesurfing. Shallow, calm water, plenty of space and reliable thermal winds from the Monchique mountains make us the most wind-reliable spot in Portugal. Here we can teach kitesurfing the way it should be taught – in the water and in a relaxed atmosphere that helps students progress.
The Algarve is one of the best kitesurfing destinations in Europe – and for good reason: the area around Lagos and Alvor in particular offers ideal conditions for beginners and advanced surfers alike. The large flat water lagoon at Alvor offers waist-deep water, steady summer winds (Nortada) and a safe learning environment – perfect for beginners. Lessons are taught according to VDWS standards, in several languages and by highly qualified instructors.
Advanced kitesurfers will also find plenty to enjoy: while Meia Praia is ideal for beginners, the west coast spots such as Bordeira and Carapateira offer impressive waves and plenty of space for experienced kitesurfers.

15 h small group kite courseThe Ocean Spirit Lodge is much more than just a kite camp – it is a home for adventurers, water sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. Six stylish yet simply furnished rooms offer comfortable privacy and a family-like lodge atmosphere. Located just 700 metres from the beach, it combines a perfect location, a relaxed atmosphere and direct access to surfing, SUP and kite spots. A supermarket, ATM and over 15 restaurants and bars are within walking distance – offering everything from fresh fish to Indian and Mediterranean cuisine.
The lovingly designed garden with orange and lemon trees invites you to relax in a hammock, on a sun lounger or in the hidden yoga studio. In the evenings, open-air cinema, legendary pizza nights or cooking evenings with the in-house chef ensure convivial moments. The stylish outdoor bar and sauna round off the experience. Those who want to be active can hire bikes or take part in guided kite, SUP and surf courses – including equipment, transfer and local insider knowledge.
