Fuerteventura: Kitesurfing & adventure in Matas Bay
Fuerteventura offers so many options for kiters and is a perfect short-break winter destination. We’re excited to have finally found a great partner right at the island’s best flatwater kitespot; welcome to Matas Bay!
Fuerteventura has a long, reliable wind season from March to late November, but you can also score great days in December and January. With an average temperature of 20 degrees and more than 20 kiteable days per month, it’s a superb winter escape.
Matas Bay itself is a fantastic flatwater spot that isn’t tide-dependent – which means you can kite all day long! Numerous wave spots scattered across the island make kitesurfing in Fuerteventura an exciting destination for advanced wave riders and kiters.

Kitespot & kiteschool
In winter and summer, Fuerteventura sees a light to moderate northeasterly trade wind. Local thermals boost it, making the island a unique kitespot. In winter, Fuerteventura offers an average monthly temperature above 20°C and just as many windy days, making it ideal for Europeans who love spending winter in the warm!
Leave your thick wetsuits at home: in summer you only need boardshorts or a bikini. In winter you’ll likely want a 3/2 mm wetsuit, and we recommend booties, as there can be small stones on the beach or in the water depending on the season.
On a rare no-wind day, we’ve included a few windless activities in your kite package. Test your balance on a SUP, grab a kayak, or join a snorkel trip in the azure water.
