Dakhla: Kitesurfing paradise with flatwater spots

Kitesurfing in Dakhla and everything you need to know about the kitespots around Dakhla:

Thanks to year-round pleasant temperatures and consistent wind, Dakhla’s lagoon is a paradise for all kiters.

For more than 5 years we’ve been at Dakhla’s northern “small” lagoon. Action-packed years with plenty of wind, fun, and ever more kiters. With Jerome, the hotelier of La Tour d'Eole, we found a charming luxury stay on the east side of the big lagoon. From now on you can improve your kiting in an unspoiled, uncrowded area with side-onshore wind.

With two flatwater spots right on the doorstep, the kitespot is ideal to learn kitesurfing or perfect your freestyle tricks. As there’s no other kiteschool nearby, the spots offer more than enough space on the water. Of course, kite courses are offered by certified, multilingual instructors – for beginners, intermediates, or special clinics, e.g., wave kitesurfing.

The result: a perfect kitesurf destination for beginners, improvers, freestylers, and wave kiters.

On the lagoon lies the luxurious La Tour d'Eole, a unique ecolodge and kitesurf hotel. Jerome, from a French hotelier family, used his long experience to build a beautiful, well-designed property. Perfectly set amid fascinating dunes, it shines with stylish, sustainable design. It features 21 private, sheltered bungalows with terraces overlooking the lagoon and spot. You’ll also enjoy a wonderful lagoon view from the heated pool or the sun lawn.

The restaurant serves a refreshing and 100% organic gourmet cuisine, showcasing top local produce and delicious Moroccan traditions. Should the wind shift, there are many alternative activities to enjoy.

The Dakhla peninsula has many advantages: sunshine every day, steady wind blowing 15–25 knots on 300+ days a year, flat water on the lagoon side and beautiful waves on the ocean side. Besides being a watersports paradise, Dakhla is also fantastic for travelers seeking wild landscapes and delicious seafood. Here you can enjoy freshly caught lobster and squid!

Kitespot & kiteschool

We’ve found another really cool spot in Morocco where you’ll have tons of fun kitesurfing and learning to kitesurf. Right on Dakhla’s big lagoon, on the east side, we discovered a still very untouched kitespot. Best of all, there are no other kiteschools nearby, which means lots of space on the water. So you can learn at ease or try the latest freestyle tricks.

Kitesurfing in Dakhla – year-round perfect wind conditions paired with a relaxed accommodation that recharges you for the next session. Dakhla offers plenty of different kitespots to try on site. We definitely recommend the spot at the famous White Dune or the Speed Spot in Dakhla.

The Ocean Academy is located at an excellent kitesurf spot. From there you have access to two spots: the lagoon and the so-called “pool,” where you’ll find the best flatwater conditions at high tide.

La Tour d'Eole

Nestled in the dunes on Dakhla’s picturesque lagoon, the luxurious La Tour d'Eole is the ecolodge and kitesurf oasis that blends top comfort with sustainable design. The stylish, elegant build integrates harmoniously into nature and was created with the utmost respect for the environment. Sustainability is central: solar energy and smart wastewater treatment actively protect nature.

Like a mirage in the landscape, La Tour d'Eole offers not only luxurious accommodation but also first-class cuisine. In the restaurant you’ll enjoy lagoon views through floor-to-ceiling windows or from the plant-adorned terrace, while Moroccan specialties and regional delicacies are served. On the generous terrace, shaded spots with wooden pergolas invite you to enjoy lunch overlooking the lagoon.

In front of the restaurant terrace, a heated infinity pool awaits, usable year-round. The water comes from a sulfurous spring 500 meters deep and is known for dermatological benefits – a true treat for the skin. Right next to the pool, a wind-sheltered sunbathing area with comfy loungers offers a beautiful lagoon view.

In the wellness rooms you can relax and recharge with massages, manicures, and pedicures.

Six times per week, free group yoga sessions are offered, while private yoga classes can be booked in a dedicated area.

Right on the lagoon sits the Ocean Academy, an ideal base for kiters. Between kite sessions you can refresh at the beach bar, which also serves alcoholic drinks, while gazing over the lagoon.

La Tour d'Eole is the perfect retreat for those seeking luxurious comfort, sustainability, and a close connection to nature – an unforgettable place on Dakhla’s lagoon.

Catering

In Dakhla we offer you a plentiful and tasty full-board plan. The restaurant at La Tour d'Eole serves a refreshing gourmet cuisine and showcases the finest local culinary traditions.

Dakhla offers plenty of great produce such as premium fish, oysters, lobster, and products from small organic farms. Our chef’s goal is to select ingredients carefully and bring out the very best for you.

The restaurant, hotel bar, and beach bar also serve alcoholic beverages. Not a given in Morocco: there’s a very wide selection of fine wines, cocktails, and other drinks.

EXCURSION TO THE NATURAL WONDER, SEBKHET IMLILY

South of Dakhla lies a true natural gem in the heart of the desert. Here, along sandy and rocky paths, water flows in a wondrous way. Sebkhet Imlily is a unique wetland in southern Morocco. In fact, as far as the eye can see, you can observe dozens of large holes in the ground. In contrast to the region’s dryness, this water body is rich in fish.

EXCURSION TO THE WHITE DUNE

A trip to the breathtaking White Dune – either as a downwinder back to La Tour d'Eole or by jeep – brings you Sahara desert vibes with incredible panoramic views.

STAND UP PADDLING

A great complement to kitesurfing is stand up paddling in Dakhla, and the large lagoon gives you plenty of space to start a real SUP tour. Especially on no-wind days, SUP is the perfect alternative to kitesurfing in Dakhla.
