Sicily is the ultimate destination for your kite trip in the heart of the Mediterranean. Lo Stagnone is one of Europe’s best flatwater areas with excellent conditions for beginners, intermediates, and freestyle pros. The Sicily kite season starts at the end of March and runs until late October – ideal for spring, summer, or autumn sessions. Mild climate and steady thermals give you perfect conditions to learn, relax, and dive into Italy’s culinary scene.

This Sicily kite trip is perfect for solo travelers and couples looking to connect – whether you’re booking alone or joining a kitesurf community trip. From minute one you’ll feel at home in our Casa Sicilia. For the short ride to the spot (approx. 1.5 km), free rental bikes are available when possible, getting you to the water in minutes – or enjoy a relaxed warm-up walk. Martin, Center Manager

"Much of Sicily’s magic is the mix of kitesurfing and incredible food! Every season I crave fresh pasta with pistachio pesto, the day’s catch, burrata, and all the sweet specialties. The ultimate highlight is the lagoon with its fantastic conditions for students and coaches. Shallow, glassy water as far as you can see makes practice and teaching super smooth and relaxed."

Kitespot & kiteschool in Sicily

Kitespot & kiteschool with us in Sicily

The kitespot here in Sicily: flatwater paradise Lo Stagnone.

The huge Lo Stagnone lagoon offers an ideal area for beginners and improvers with glassy conditions and plenty of room for your first waterstarts or freestyle tricks – one of the best beginner kitespots around.

With north wind our home spot delivers perfect side-onshore conditions, often boosted by local effects. If it switches to south (Scirocco), the lagoon remains fully usable. Experience kitesurfing and Sicilian dolce vita right at the spot!

The kiteschool in Sicily:
Our VDWS-licensed school is run by our long-standing partner. The pro coaching team teaches in German and English, among others. Your progress comes first in a relaxed community atmosphere.

Kite lessons & equipment:
Courses run in small groups to ensure high safety and individual attention. As the lagoon is shallow throughout, there’s no deep-water stress. That saves energy and speeds up learning – after each attempt you can simply walk back calmly.

The school is equipped with the latest gear from Core and Duotone. Looking for maximum push? Our special kite camp offers intensive coaching.

Extra activities Alternative activities beyond kitesurfing
No-wind moments & excursions

If the wind takes a break, there are plenty of cool spots around the lagoon to explore. Our on-site team always has the latest tips, but these are the classics:

The Egadi Islands

A trip to Favignana or Levanzo is a real highlight. It’s best to join a shared boat tour – discover the most beautiful coves from the water, jump straight into crystal-clear seas, and snorkel around the Egadi with fellow kiters.

Erice & the lagoon

The medieval village of Erice sits on the hill and offers the best views over the lagoon. Nothing beats strolling the narrow old-town lanes with a gelato after your session. For a dose of history right at the spot, take a short boat ride to the island of Mozia in the middle of the lagoon.

San Vito Lo Capo & Zingaro National Park

Hike along the cliffs in Zingaro National Park to hidden bays. Then relax on the bright sandy beach of San Vito Lo Capo. Turquoise water and white sand – Caribbean vibes in the middle of Italy!

Our tip: To reach trattorias in the evening and nearby spots flexibly, we recommend a rental car. Stay independent and make the most of your Sicily holiday.

General information

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR YOUR TRIP TO SICILY

As EU citizens, you don’t need a visa to enter.
All non-EU citizens can contact us or their relevant embassy for entry information.
Sicily is easily reached from many European airports. We recommend searching flights to Palermo (PMO) or Trapani (TPS). Many airlines offer direct routes. Ryanair has convenient, low-cost flights direct to Trapani, for example from Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden or Düsseldorf-Weeze.
Yes, we’re happy to arrange transfers from Palermo or Trapani airports. However, we recommend a rental car for more flexibility, easier access to trattorias in the evening, and exploring the island on windless days.
Since Italy is in the Eurozone, the euro is the official currency. You can pay by card almost everywhere (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro). Still, we recommend carrying some cash for small expenses—like a quick espresso or at smaller, typical Sicilian trattorias.
Depending on your lifestyle, plan on about 35–50 € per day for food and incidentals. Since breakfast is included in most packages, this covers a relaxed lunch and dinner plus drinks.
Free WiFi is available in and around the hotels. In Italy, outlets have the same voltage as in Germany and you usually won’t need an adapter. Depending on the lodging, socket types C, F, or L are used.
  • Passport
  • Sunscreen (min. SPF 30–50 and water-resistant) and after-sun lotion. Looking for reef-friendly sunscreen? Check here
  • Beach towel and flip-flops
  • Light clothing (sweater, pants for the evening)
  • Kitesurf beginners who may be walking in the lagoon should bring thin neoprene shoes. Find shoes here.
  • Wetsuit. Nothing suitable in your closet? Find more here
  • Kite gear (for guests without a course or rental). Missing something? You might find it in the Kite-Buddy online shop
Regarding kite sizes, you can usually expect 8–12 m in peak season and larger kites in spring and autumn.
