Tatajuba: Brazil’s strongest wind & endless kitesurf adventures

Brazil is known for its strong, reliable wind. But Tatajuba takes it up a notch compared to other Brazilian kite areas. Constant side-onshore wind with a 99% wind probability from July to February. In July, August, and February, expect 17–23 knots and only a few windless days. In peak season, when other spots are windy too, Tatajuba adds a few more knots. Around 30 knots and more are the beautiful daily norm for kitesurfers here.

Between Jericoacoara (Jeri) and Camocim, the small village of Tatajuba lies right at a river mouth. You won’t find asphalt roads here. You walk on fine sand, surrounded by palms, friendly locals, and unique nature. Deep red sunsets and arguably Brazil’s strongest wind await. If you remember Cumbuco as a small, remote fishing village and loved it, you’ll value this spot even more.

The spot is a river mouth. With incoming and outgoing tide, beautiful flatwater sections form—ideal for freestyle. The shallow lagoon is perfect for learners. The open sea, thanks to its expanse and side-onshore wind, is also great for beginners. There’s endless space—for your first meters on the board, cruising, or training new moves. Small kicker waves deliver big fun on a directional or wave board.

Tatajuba offers endless options. Book a trip to a freshwater lagoon just 4 km away, or discover Brazil’s coast on long downwinders. Our buggy tours—also to nearby Jericoacoara for shopping or partying—are a must.

OSVALDO, Station manager

“Tatajuba is strong wind, warm water, tranquility, kitesurfing, simplicity, walking barefoot in the sand and watching the sunset, and the good people who live here and make this village so special. Sipping cool caipirinhas and eating fresh oysters after a full day of kiting makes it even more perfect.”

Casa de Praia is our modern beachfront stay right at the spot. Every room has a balcony or terrace. At high tide you can launch right onto the water. “From bed to board” in just a few steps. Extra activities ACTIVITIES IN AND AROUND TATAJUBA
More activities
(Excursions not included in the price) If you need a break from the water, blast through the giant Funil dunes in a beach buggy. Hardcore thrill‑seekers can try sandboarding on the dunes.
Tatajuba lies between Jericoacoara (30 km), famous among wind and kitesurfers, and the fishing town of Camocim (25 km). You can reach both by rented beach buggy.

Jericoacoara

Jericoacoara, or Jeri to insiders, is known for its laid-back vibe and buzzing nightlife. The party starts around midnight, and if you can keep up, you can dance till dawn. Although Jeri has only four sandy streets, it offers a surprising number of restaurants, pousadas, and charming little shops.
Active travelers have plenty to do in Jeri. Besides kiting, learn Capoeira on the beach, go sandboarding in the dunes, or try your luck on horseback.

Camocim

Camocim sits at the mouth of the Rio Coreaú, near the border with the “land of endless possibilities,” Piauí. There’s a post office, banks, hospitals, shops, a bus station, and many hotels and pousadas. The market and village life are well worth a visit!

FAQ about Tatajuba, Brazil

Please remember that for travel to Brazil you need a valid passport with at least 6 months’ validity.
If you are not a German citizen, please check the entry requirements for your country of origin with the Brazilian embassy in advance.

We’re happy to advise and find the right flight for you.
Flights (to Fortaleza) with KLM (via Amsterdam), TAP (via Lisbon), Air France (via Paris) and Latam (via Madrid) from all of Germany, Austria & Switzerland generally range between 750 and 1,200 €.

Please note our experience: in Lisbon plan at least 2 hours transfer time, otherwise there’s a high risk luggage won’t make it.

There are many ways to reach Tatajuba, but your trip usually starts at Fortaleza Airport. From there, a transfer company will take you to Tatajuba. The ride takes about 4 hours.

For budget travelers, solo travelers, and adventurers, you can also take a bus from Fortaleza to Jijoca, Jericoacoara, or Camocim. From there we can arrange a beach buggy transfer. This option takes a bit longer but is much cheaper. We're happy to help with the arrangements.

In Tatajuba, payments are generally made in cash or by credit card.

That naturally varies from person to person. Our generous breakfast buffet and our Wednesday community BBQ are included.
An açaí and a coconut to refuel after your first kite session at the school cost about €7. At the pousada we regularly offer dinners at great prices. Enjoy, for example, tasty burgers or a local dish with starter and dessert for about €10–15 together with the community. In Tatajuba’s center you can dine cheaply and try local specialties. Near the beach, prices are more European.
Everything you consume at the accommodation and kiteschool, plus any extra excursions, can be settled together at checkout in cash or by credit card.

Our KiteWorldWide pousadas and the kiteschool offer Wi-Fi, and the European plug system is used (plug type F).

  • Insect repellent.
  • Beach towel and flip-flops.
  • Light clothing (sweater and long pants for evenings – safety first).
