Best kitespots for kitesurfing in May

In May we head back outdoors as the sun beckons and life slowly moves outside! Weekends are planned on the coast, evenings mean a barbecue, and over a cold beer we swap stories from a perfect day on the water. That’s why May is ideal for a kite trip. Southern European destinations awaken from winter, serving plenty of wind and pleasant temps. For those who like it warmer and more adventurous, check out Sri Lanka or Morocco. Both offer ideal May conditions for a kite adventure with a touch of the exotic.

Egypt: Seahorse Bay

Kitesurfing in May

Our longtime partners and friends at Ibi & Friends discovered and developed Seahorse Bay between Hurghada and El Gouna for kiters. This great flatwater lagoon spot offers three things we hadn’t found elsewhere in Egypt: 1. Accommodation right at the spot! No more tuk-tuks, fixed transfers, or missed wind. 2. Limited numbers for more space on the water! Student numbers and storage spots are capped so everyone has plenty of room. Want to prep beforehand? Check out our Kitesurfing video tutorials. And 3. Kiting even at low tide! There’s a “pool” in the sea that stays during low tide, so a handful of kiters can ride at any tide. We love it! You too?

  • Family atmosphere at the Ibi & Friends Kiteclub Seahorse Bay
  • From bed to board: 20 meters from room to spot
  • Large flatwater lagoon for every level!
  • Limited spots for more space on the water
  • Exclusive with KiteWorldWide
  • Great for solo travelers, couples, and families

Dakhla sits in southern Morocco, right by the Sahara – and is one of the world’s best kite spots. The huge flatwater lagoon delivers 300+ windy days a year, butter-flat water and standing areas for beginners and advanced riders. Add year-round mild temperatures, legendary spots like the White Dune, and fresh seafood straight from the Atlantic.

Dakhla Sands – our kitesurf original right on the lagoon

The heart of the kite camp is the open restaurant with panoramic lagoon views. Morning, noon, and night you’ll be well fed here, connect with other kiters, or simply soak up the peace.
After your session, meet in the lounge for sunset over the lagoon. Right next door is the KiteWorldWide Pro Center with Core and North gear — you won’t find shorter paths between bed, plate, and board.
We also offer unforgettable downwinders to the White Dune or Speed Spot.

Greece: Rhodes

Kitesurfing in May

Some places stick with you instantly. Theologos on Rhodes is one of them. The Meltemi blows reliably side-onshore from May to October – often light in the morning, then steady 15–25 knots from midday. Beginners, improvers, and advanced riders all get their money’s worth – and if you want a change, try wingfoiling or windsurfing on site.
Our partner school is the Surfing Bird Kite & Windsurf Center: IKO-certified, relaxed vibe, quality gear, and a team that always keeps an eye on the water.
The hotel is only a short walk from the spot, and the pool is perfect for unwinding after your kite session.
But Rhodes is far more than a kitespot. The Valley of the Butterflies is 20 minutes away, the medieval old town of Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the west coast serves up sunsets worth the trip alone.

  • Wind: Meltemi, 15–25 knots, side-onshore from the southwest
  • Short transfer: Rhodes airport only about 5 km away
  • Kite school: Surfing Bird Kite & Windsurf Center (IKO-certified)
  • Suitable for: beginners, improvers, advanced – and non-kiters
