Kiting in May - The best kitespots in May
In May we head back outside as the sun tempts us and life slowly moves into the open air! Weekends are planned on the coast, evenings mean barbecues, and over a cold beer we share the highlights of a perfect kite day. That’s why May is ideal for a kite trip. Southern European destinations wake from winter and bring steady wind and pleasant temps. For those who want it warmer and more adventurous, take a look at Sri Lanka or Morocco. Both offer ideal May conditions for a kite adventure with a touch of exotic flair.

Egypt: Seahorse Bay
Kitesurfing in MayOur long-time partners and friends from Ibi & Friends discovered and developed Seahorse Bay for kiters between Hurghada and El Gouna. At this fantastic flatwater-lagoon spot you’ll find three things we hadn’t seen elsewhere in Egypt: 1. Accommodation right at the spot! No more tuk-tuks, fixed transfer times, or missed wind. 2. Limited capacity for more space on the water! Student numbers and storage slots are capped so all guests always have plenty of room. Want to prep in advance? Check out our Kitesurfen lernen Video Tutorials. And 3. Kiting even at low tide! There’s a “pool” in the sea that remains at low tide where a handful of kiters can ride at any tide level. We love it! You too?
- Family atmosphere at the Ibi & Friends Kiteclub Seahorse Bay
- From bed to board: 20 meters from your room to the spot
- Large flatwater lagoon for every level!

Kitesurfing in MaySome places stick with you instantly. Theologos on Rhodes is one of them. The Meltemi blows reliably side-onshore from May to October – often light in the morning, then a steady 15 to 25 knots from midday. Our partner school is the Surfing Bird Kite & Windsurf Center: IKO-certified, relaxed vibe, quality gear, and a team that always keeps an eye on the water.
The hotel is just a short walk from the spot and the pool is perfect for unwinding after your kite session.
But Rhodes is far more than a kitespot. The Valley of the Butterflies is 20 minutes away, the medieval old town of Rhodes City is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the west coast serves sunsets worth the trip alone.
