From van to plane. Last year I was traveling Sardinia in my van. Now I’m back, but a whole new adventure awaits: a week-long kite cruise in Sardinia’s most beautiful bays. Far from crowded beaches.

On the way to the kite cruise
The Sardinia Cruise starts near OlbiaA different kind of holiday. Usually I travel around in my van, exploring pretty towns—ideally by the sea—and fending for myself. This trip was going to be a little different:
- Kite2Sail Girlscruise = One week with 8 girls plus crew, sailing along Sardinia’s coast and hitting the most beautiful kitespots.
A few of us had already connected via WhatsApp. I met Anne at Hamburg Airport as we’d managed to book the same flight.
After check-in a girl came up to us: “Hey, are you flying to Sardinia too?” Two girls in dryrobes at the same time and place weren’t exactly hard to spot, so Nina guessed we had the same destination.
So now we were three on tour. From Hamburg via Frankfurt to Olbia. There we met the next one, Miri—now we were four. The other kite cruise guests had different flight times; we’d meet them later on the catamaran.
From there it was another half-hour drive to the bay where the “Kitevoyager” was already waiting for us.
We kicked off with a get-together and shared our cabin with another cruise participant. Over dinner at a traditional Sardinian pizzeria, we had the chance to get to know each other with a glass of vino. All in all: a smooth arrival.
A day on the catamaran

Private kitespots in northeast Sardinia
No crowded beaches—we kite from the catamaranWe launch the kites directly from the catamaran and can cruise in the middle of the bay around our Kitevoyager. That gives us plenty of space to learn new things, and the dinghy (our own rescue boat) makes sure even less confident riders get back on board.
At lunchtime, once everyone’s back on the catamaran, Lea conjures up delicious pasta. You can tell she’s travelled a lot—every day she serves different dishes that are new to me but always super tasty.
In the afternoon some of us chill on deck while another group heads to a nearby beach by dinghy to explore. And of course there are girls who won’t miss a second kite session.
In the evening it’s BBQ time. We’ve got everything on board and prep tasty salads together. In a lovely atmosphere we sit with cold drinks and recap the day. We watch the last kiters on the water and later enjoy a dreamy sunset view.
At our evening skipper meeting we discuss the next day: wind forecast, which direction we’ll head, and the rough plan. The goal is to check out a new spot every day.
No-wind activities for kiters
No wind for kiting? No problem!Usually we pick an activity together. But if you want some me-time, you can get comfy on the big beanbags on deck to read a book, relax, or soak up the sun.
My verdict after a week on the kite cruise
One week of kite cruise. A good idea?- Trotz unserer täglichen Routine gestaltete sich jeder Tag anders.
- Dank des Katamarans erreicht man menschenleere und wunderschöne Kitespots.
- Man sieht die Insel mal von einer ganz anderen Seite – im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes.
- Man bekommt einen Einblick in den Segelsport.
- Man lernt neue Leute kennen und wächst schnell zu einer Einheit zusammen.
Und wer weiß, vielleicht mache noch einmal eine Kitecruise an irgendeinem anderen schönen Örtchen dieser Erde. Auf jeden Fall werde ich die ein oder andere aus unserer Crew nochmal wieder sehen. Zum Kiten in Norddeutschland oder irgendwo anders auf der Welt.
