Kitesurfing in Kenya – the lodge right on the kite spot

Mwazaro Beach Lodge, with 22 African-style accommodations, was taken over by a former KiteWorldWide guest and completely renovated last year. Custom furniture and loving details turn the entire lodge into a wonderful place to enjoy a relaxed kite holiday in beautiful surroundings. All bungalows and rooms have either sea or mangrove views and are located right on the kite spot.
The hotel’s own restaurant focuses on fresh, seasonal, local cuisine that meets the highest standards. Breakfast and dinner are included. All dishes are prepared with tasty market vegetables and often with locally caught fresh fish and seafood.

The kite spot in Kenya – flat water as far as the eye can see

Mwazaro impresses with an approx. 15 km² flat-water spot that promises tons of fun and strong progress for beginners, intermediates, and pros. The spot excites us with its versatility. Depending on tides and range, different sandbanks, flat-water runs, and small swell lines form, giving all kiters plenty of fun on the water, including on downwinders and short kite trips.

In the season between mid-December and mid-March, consistent wind comes from the North/Northeast. That means you always have side onshore wind. Air temperature is around 30° C and in the 25° C warm water you can kite the whole season without a wetsuit. On site we have current kite gear from Core and Eleveight for you.

Dustin, tell us... ... this is your second year in a row for KiteWorldWide in Kenya.

What do you like most about our destination in Kenya? It’s not just learning to kite in Kenya that draws me here. The daily, steady wind is a dream, of course. But what really moves me are the people. They’re very friendly, never stressed, and always have a smile. This inner calm is contagious. And then you arrive and are overwhelmed by nature and the beauty of the lodge – it’s a very special kite holiday in Kenya.

What is the kite spot like and what can you say about the wind? The wind here is truly impressive. It kicks in every day between 10:00 and 11:00 and stays steady into the night. I’ve only seen such a wind profile in Brazil. Our lagoon is huge and exclusive to our guests, as we have the only launch and landing area. The special part? The lagoon is surrounded by breathtaking mangroves.

Which levels would you recommend Kenya for? Kenya is a paradise for kiters of all levels. Thanks to the tides there’s a large standing area for beginners, making learning to kite in Kenya a breeze. Pros will love it too. A bit farther out is a reef that creates perfect waves for wave boarders. And a little insider tip: with the right tide there’s a small island far out where we like to start a downwinder. So whether beginner or pro, this spot has something for everyone.
