Day 1 is all about the journey. I arrive, get to know the accommodation, and usually take a quick orientation walk at the lagoon. Just walk barefoot through the sand, feel the wind, and look out over the water for the first time – the perfect start for me.

Day 2 gets real: set up gear, check wind and water conditions, and take the first practice runs in the shallow water. The waist-deep areas give me instant confidence to ease into it.

Day 3 means longer sessions at the lagoon’s best spots. I grab tips from the local team, work on my maneuvers, and get key safety advice when trying more demanding moves.

On day 4, it’s often small trips to more remote spots. That vastness, the special light – perfect for photos and simply soaking it all in. In the evening I sit with other kiters, swap stories, and wind down the day.

The following days are a mix of training, free sessions, and little excursions around Dakhla. In the end I either take new tricks home – or simply that indescribable feeling of freedom on the water.

For me, Dakhla is more than a kite spot. It’s the breathtaking lagoon, the perfect conditions, the desert’s unique energy – and that one-of-a-kind Dakhla spirit you have to experience yourself.

Flight and transfer to your accommodation in Dakhla
My trip to Dakhla usually starts relaxed with Royal Air Maroc, sometimes with a short stopover in Casablanca. For us kiters that’s especially handy, as kite luggage is often carried free of charge – a real plus.

On arrival at Dakhla airport, I’m greeted by our transfer driver holding a KiteWorldWide sign. From there it’s off to Dakhla Sands. On the drive I soak up first impressions of Morocco’s stark, fascinating landscape. We pass through the town of Dakhla before heading out toward the lagoon. By now, my excitement for the windy, water-filled days ahead is peaking.

First impression: paradise in the desert
At the hotel, I’m always struck by the endless expanse. Kilometers of dunes and a special calm define the setting. The accommodation features deluxe bungalows and cozy standard rooms in Moroccan style – simple, authentic, and perfectly in tune with the surroundings.

I immediately feel that special mix of adventure and relaxation. The desert silence, the light, the view over the lagoon – it all makes everyday life fade fast. And when I look at the mirror-flat water with steady wind sweeping across, I know: the kiting conditions are ideal.

Breakfast and meeting the team
My first morning starts with a hearty Moroccan breakfast. Fresh bread, fruit, coffee – just right before the first session. Over breakfast I meet the kiteschool team and other kiters who are just as stoked as I am.

We chat about wind, gear, and personal goals and make plans for the day. The team is always on hand – from choosing the right kite to fine-tuning technique. The relaxed, welcoming vibe makes me feel at home straight away. And with every minute, I’m more eager to hit the water.

When I first stood at the main spot in Dakhla, I knew right away: this is a true kitesurf paradise. The kite spot sits right on the lagoon, and depending on the tide I walk three to ten minutes to the water. My gear gets shuttled down by cargo motorbike – classic Dakhla.

What I love here is the flat water and incredibly steady wind. Whether you’re just starting out or working on freestyle tricks – conditions are ideal. At low tide, huge standing areas appear, making it even safer and more relaxed. The wind is mostly sideshore, perfect for steady progression and long, enjoyable sessions.

At our KiteWorldWide kiteschool in Dakhla, licensed by VDWS, I see every day how quickly beginners progress here. In waist-deep water with consistent wind, first drills are easy to nail. From land basics to first meters on the board, we support each person individually. It’s especially important to me that everyone feels safe and has fun. A wetsuit is recommended – especially when the wind has a chill.

After a long session, there’s nothing better than lunch together at Dakhla Sands. The full board serves a great selection of traditional Moroccan dishes – tajine, couscous, and many specialties. I love this midday break: sitting together, swapping morning stories, laughing, and planning the next session.

For me, Dakhla isn’t just a spot – it’s that special blend of wind, wide-open space, community, and Moroccan hospitality that makes every day unforgettable.

Excursion to the White Dune
Another Dakhla highlight for me is an off-road trip to the famous White Dune. In a 4x4, I cross the desert, passing breathtaking landscapes and sand formations. The drive itself is an adventure, with the vastness and beauty of the Moroccan desert up close. The White Dune is a unique spot known for its fine white sand and impressive height. Strong winds often blow here, making it a paradise for experienced kitesurfers.

Kiting experience and the view
Kiting at the White Dune is unforgettable. I revel in the freedom and thrill as I glide across the lagoon’s mirror-flat water. The view from the dune is simply stunning: an endless expanse of sand and water glittering in the sun. It’s also worth visiting as a spectator: I love watching other kiters pulling daring jumps and tricks and soaking up the unique vibe. I often take the chance to snap photos and capture Morocco’s beauty. Wind direction is usually ideal here, which makes kiting easier.

Visit to the hot spring in the desert
A special highlight on the way back from the White Dune is a stop at a hot spring in the middle of the desert. Many locals also use it for traditional water massages said to benefit body and mind. It’s admittedly a bit quirky – but a very cool experience!
