What does it feel like to stand on the board for the first time? We asked Gamu about her first steps on the water – and she gave us exciting insights into her kitesurf beginnings:

I’m Gamu, originally from Zimbabwe – and I’ve been living in Germany for almost three years now. I’ve been with KiteWorldWide for nearly two years and I’m doing my IT training here. So I’m one of the people making sure everything runs smoothly for you – while secretly dreaming of water and wind.
2. Has it always been your dream to learn kitesurfing?
Honestly: no! Before I joined KWW, kitesurfing wasn’t really on my radar. But when you’re surrounded daily by kite trips, spots, and stoked customers, it starts to get to you. Then the chance came to travel to Egypt – and I thought: okay, that’s my sign. Let’s go.
3. Before takeoff: what were your thoughts heading to Egypt for your first kite trip?
The anticipation was huge! But I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a bit of fear. From the outside, kitesurfing looks insanely cool and insanely hard. So I had that classic mix of “can’t wait” and “hope I don’t embarrass myself too much.” Spoiler: there were some epic wipeouts – but that’s part of it.
4. Suddenly you were there: how was your first impression of learning to kite in Egypt?
Arriving at Seahorse Bay – and I was instantly in love. The light, the water, the vibe: everything felt relaxed and welcoming. The kite club was exactly what you want – cozy, warm, and you feel at home right away, beginner or pro. And the sea? I wanted in immediately – and honestly never wanted to get out.
5. How did your first day learning to kitesurf go?
Hamada was ready right after breakfast – wind was calling! No time to waste. We grabbed our gear, and after barely 100 meters we were on the beach. Then the first lesson started right there, with the craziest views ever: water, sun, wind – and me in the middle of it. Honestly? There’s no better start to learning to kitesurf.
6. Many wonder: how do you actually start learning to kitesurf?
Much easier than you think! A course starts with theory and gear intro: how does a kite work? What safety rules apply? What do the lines do? Then it’s body feel – learning kite control, first on land. And at some point, when the kite is set, you finally hit the water. That moment is pure magic. If you want to learn to kite, don’t fear the start – a good course structure makes it easy.
7. Do you remember the moment when it “clicked” while learning to kite?
It happened during body drag – and I was hooked instantly. The kite pulls, you’re dragged through the water, and suddenly a rush of adrenaline shoots through your body. I was totally hyped! In that moment I knew: not enough. I wanted more. Way more. Body drag was my drug – instant addiction. Anyone learning to kite will know that feeling.
8. How did it feel to score that first real success learning to kite in Egypt?
Okay, the first FIVE METERS. And I reacted like I’d just won the world championship. Everyone on the water and beach heard me – my screams of excitement were impossible to miss. Craziest part? It was only my second lesson. Board under my feet, kite in the air, wind at my back – pure freedom. After that it was clear: wind is life. And KWW was my ticket to the wind. That’s how a kitesurf course can change your life.
9. What else did you experience in Egypt besides kiting?
So much more! We did trips to downtown Hurghada and beautiful El Gouna – both absolutely worth it. With Kiki and Ibi I hit a huge shopping mall, which felt surreal after intense days on the water. Plus snorkeling, beach chilling – and evenings? Cocktail night and game nights with the other guests. The local community really makes a difference. A kitesurf course in Egypt is also a true holiday experience.
10. Finally: how did you experience the kite club at Seahorse Bay?
Absolutely loved it. My instructor Hamada has become a real friend. That mix of genuine fun and clear progress while learning to kite is exactly what you need. And the rest? Every day a mega dinner with a crazy tasty 4-course menu. The accommodation was comfy and cozy – simply the dream. But what truly made the trip special? The people. The guest community is simply amazing. You meet such great people – and one of them, Kai, is now saved in my phone as “Kite Partner.” Says it all.
